GPS tracking device for dog?

Posted in: gps tracking device |

I just got the microchip put in my dog, I was also wondering if there another shot for gps or something if my dog would get lost, the only thing I found was stuff for hunters.

Nothing yet but they are working on something! right now the best thing is the micro chip!

I was looking for one of those too, but the only thing I found was something called RoamEO which only works within a mile radius.

well the chip can act like a gps but the dog has to be taken to a vet and they scan for a chip for free. but an actual gps for a dog??? never heard of it. They do make collars for the dog with their name and your number on it just incase no one brings the dog to the vet for a chip scan.

Actually, I watched an episode of It takes a Thief.. and one of the owners dogs was stolen.. so when they did the security upgrade for the homeowners they gave her this special collar.. it has a GPS tracking device that is almost like a tether.. if it strays past a certain point the owner would receive a call on her cell phone and/or an email saying where the dog is.. I'm not sure what it was called though..

Okay, after about 2 minutes of searching here is the one they gave her on the show..

I am considering this option for my dog as well.. even my vet is unsure about microchipping my dog as he reacts badly to injections.. not misbehaving, .. more like large "tumors" form.. once lasting for months and needing surgery to remove.. we both feel putting something under the skin that can't come out may make it worse.. (as his lumps tend to last about as long as it takes for whatever was injected to work through the dogs body) and I know for a fact that in my area the shelters don't have a scanner for the chips anyway.. (some of the vets do, but not the shelters)
